Feed the Children

Fruit to School Schemes           Total  Cost: £60,000

Problem: Almost all children in the area our malnourished due to poverty and the problem is compounded as many are also AIDS orphans, left to fend for themselves and often forced to beg or undertake prostitution. 

 

Aim: In 2008 we fed over 300,000 school meals of fruit to hungry Zulu children through our simple fruit to school schemes. 

In 2009 our mission is to feed over One Million school meals of fresh fruit to hungry children and AIDS orphans. 

 

Cost: 6p per child per day.

        £6 feeds 100 children for a day.

        £60 feeds a 1,000 children for a day.

        £600 feeds 10,000 children for a day.

        £6,000 provides 100,000 school meals of fresh fruit

        £60,000 provides ONE Million school meals of fresh fruit

 

In addition, a further £60,000 provides ONE Million high vitamin Epap supplies to be given to the children to take home as an easy mix food supplement. We will then be accounting for about 90% of the children’s daily nutritional needs.

 

Total cost for combined schemes £120,000 pa

  • We buy all fruit from the local growers and sellers, thus providing much needed trade within the local economy. 

 

Operational and Monitoring: Our fruit to school schemes are operated through Banana Appeal, UK charity 1122157, and by our committed volunteer partners in Zululand, who manage and monitor the schemes. 

 

Reporting: We adopt a very open and personal relationship with our major funding organisations, providing regular reporting and communication. All other donors will be kept updated through our website and newsletters, which will highlight the current activities of the charity.
