Save the Parents

Save the Parents                       Total  Cost: £60,000

                                                  Unit Cost:   £        6p

Problem: South Africa has an estimated 2.5 million AIDS orphans and the AIDS pandemic is obliterating the population of rural areas such as Zululand.

The death count rises daily, and the death of every parent creates a new AIDS orphan, doomed to a life of misery, poverty and inhumanity.

Shockingly, by 2010, the same year as FIFA hold the World Cup there, it is estimated that 20% of all South African children will be AIDS orphans.

One of the hardest hits areas of Zululand is Nkandla, home to 140,000 people, almost half (46%) of whom are under age 15.  Unemployment stands at 96% and the majority of households are headed by women.

Nkandla has one of the highest HIV infection rates in any area in Africa and the highest in South Africa. There are no reliable statistics, but it is estimated that at least a third of all people in Nkandla are infected with AIDS. 99% of children are malnourished.

Aim: Our aim is to provide ONE Million emergency e-pap meals to sick parents. E-pap is a high nutritional meal supplement proven to boast the immune system and save lives, and is a first line of defence in the battle against AIDS.

Cost: 6p feeds a sick parent for a day.

£6 feeds 100 sick parents for a day.

£60 feeds 1,000 sick parents for a day.

£600 feeds 10,000 sick parents for a day.

£6,000 provides 100,000 high nutrition e-pap meals to parents
