Protect the Orphans

Protect the Orphans                   Total  Cost: £45,000

                                                   Unit Cost:   £15,000

Problem: There are many child led households in Zululand. Some maintained by children as young as six, trying to feed and protect their younger siblings.

These children have no proper housing, no regular food, no family structure and no hope. They are very vulnerable to physical, mental, emotional and sexual abuse. Some are forced into virtual slavery by abusive “adopters”.

Few orphanages exist in the area.

Aim: Our aim is to build three child villages to protect the most vulnerable children and remove them from danger.

Cost: £15,000 per child village catering for 30 children, being £500 per child.

Benefits:

  • Creates a sanctuary for the most vulnerable orphans.
  • Brings the children away from begging and prostitution and possible slavery from abusive “adopters”.
  • Takes the burden off young children left to feed themselves.
  • Give the children a sense of community and chance of a better future.

Operational and Monitoring: Our child village schemes are operated through Banana Appeal, UK charity 1122157, and by our committed volunteer partners in Zululand, who manage and monitor the villages.

Reporting: We adopt a very open and personal relationship with our major funding organisations, providing regular reporting and communication. All other donors will be kept updated through our website and newsletters, which will highlight the current activities of the charity.
